FurrIX Public Good‑Will Services
FurrIX is a hobbyist‑run virtual Internet exchange built entirely on open‑source software,
shared knowledge and a healthy dose of professional mimicry from watching the big boys
play in the real world. Because our project stands on the shoulders of countless developers,
has taken lessons for real infrastructure operators and other hobbyist communities, we
choose to give back where we can without risking our own operations. We believe
in giving back to the internet — even in small ways.

We host these services because:
- We rely heavily on open-source software.
- We learn from real-world operators and networks.
- We believe in being a good neighbor on the internet.
- We want our members to feel welcome and empowered.
- We want to contribute positively to the broader ecosystem.

Everything we run is non-commercial, hobbyist-operated and best-effort. If you choose to use
any of our services, you’re sharing in the spirit of what makes the older internet great. You’re
helping show that even small, drop in the ocean networks and projects matter and make a
difference. That’s pretty cool and we thank you for your interest!
(On the same token, please don’t use us anywhere mission critical- we’re just a hobby-grade!)

NTP Time Server
FurrIX operates a public Stratum‑2 time server as a friendly gesture to the wider internet.
Our node synchronizes against multiple Stratum‑1 and Stratum‑2 sources across Canada and
the USA. Networking for the NTP server is shaped to 6 Mbps to ensure stable, predictable
performance; as well as keep our vIX in its own lane traffic-wise. This service participates
in the global NTP pool to help distribute accurate time to networks, devices and operators
around the world. Runs on CCD0 with the FurrIX fabric.

Hostname: time.furrix.zone
Protocols: NTPv3 / NTPv4
Net Stack: IPv6 Native [IPv4 NAT Planned]

OpenNIC Hybrid Name Servers
FurrIX runs a pair of hybrid‑mode DNS servers compatible with both ICANN and OpenNIC
namespaces. These servers support multiple access methods and are reachable over both
IPv4 and IPv6. These are not production servers, they are hobbyist maintained, use of them
is at one’s own risk. These are traffic shaped to 15Mbps. These servers exist to support
interoperability, experimentation and alternative namespace communities while still behaving
clean and polite as we can make them within the public internet.

Authoritative / Recursive Nodes:
ns1.furrix.zone
ns2.furrix.zone

Unified Access Point:
dns.furrix.zone

Games-3P Community Host
FurrIX isn’t just routers and VMs — it’s a clubhouse for our volunteer techs and community
members. Games-3P is our shared gaming host, jointly operated so contributors can relax,
hang out and enjoy the network fabric they help build and operate.
Current and rotating titles include:
DayZ, Modded Minecraft servers and PZ (seasonal)

This arrangement is informal, social and part of the culture that keeps FurrIX fun. All game
servers run with the lowest resource priority as our network fabric and services come first.
Runs on CCD1 away from the FurrIX fabric and shares CCD1 with other vIX staging/test.

WHOIS Service
FurrIX operates a lightweight, custom WHOIS endpoint for project-related lookups, member
resources and internal namespace information. This service is intended for convenience and
transparency within our small ecosystem. It gives peers, members and external parties a
method for looking up who is responsible for various traffic and operations within FurrIX.
