About This Time Server
time.furrix.zone is a Stratum‑2 NTP server operated by FurrIX, assembled by a kobold
engineer who saw a shiny toy via a Reddit post calling for help and absolutely had to
assemble and poke at it.

Technical Overview
Stratum: 2
Hostname: time.furrix.zone
Protocols: NTPv3 / NTPv4
Network Stack: IPv6 Native (IPv4 Legacy)
Traffic Shaping: 6 Mbps
Operator: FurrIX vIX (Hobbyist)
Platform: Stripped Debian VM on CCD0

The server synchronizes against multiple Stratum‑1 and Stratum‑2 sources across Canada
and the USA chosen for stability, geographic diversity and reliability. Chrony handles discipline
and keeps the clock tight and predictable.

Traffic shaping to 6Mbps ensures:
- stable performance
- predictable load
- no interference with the rest of the vIX
- polite participation in the global NTP pool

Rules & Expectations
To keep this service healthy and enjoyable for everyone, we ask that users follow a
few simple guidelines:

1. No mission‑critical use
This is a hobbyist time server running on a kobold operated exchange
fabric; It is not designed for financial systems, industrial control, medical equipment,
enterprise use of any kind or anything with compliance requirements. Do not use
our service anywhere that it could cause harm or break anything.

2. Keep polling intervals reasonable
Chrony, systemd‑timesyncd and ntpd defaults are fine.
Please avoid:
- aggressive sub‑second polling
- custom scripts that hammer the server
- load‑testing without permission

3. Respect the bandwidth limits
The server is shaped to 6 Mbps. This keeps it stable and ensures we stay in our
lane within the NTP pool.

4. IPv6 preferred
The server is IPv6‑native with plans for IPv4 to be available later via
NAT, but IPv6 is the cleanest path for our vIX right now.

5. Remember: this is a shiny kobold toy
This service exists because one of our engineers saw a neat idea and said:
“Oh, shiny toy, must assemble!”
It’s built with care, but it’s still a hobby project.

Running a public NTP node is one of our ways of giving back to the internet.
It’s small, but it matters and it keeps the spirit of the older internet alive.
If you choose to use time.furrix.zone, like most public facing and hobbyist operated
services, you are doing so at your own risk. While we provide time, it is ultimately
your responsibility to ensure that time is correct and to not rely on just us as a time
source in your environment.
